Episode Ten - Doctor (Pain Specialist)

Doctor Pain SpecialistAn anesthesiologist is a physician who has completed four years of medical school after graduating from college. Following medical school, today's anesthesiologist completes four to five years of specialized medical training in the field of anesthesiology, which includes pain management and intensive care medicine. An anesthesiologist is responsible for managing vital life functions, including breathing, heart rhythm and blood pressure while administering anesthesia. Throughout surgery, an anesthesiologist makes medical judgments and is responsible for the management of the patients physical condition.

The anesthesiologist may be assisted by other medical personnel. If you are going to be an anesthesiologist you will need to be good in school and have years of medical training before you.


Episode Ten - Zookeeper

NursePeople who love animals get enjoyment working with them and helping them. Some of the work can be hard and not so nice. Caretakers and keepers have to clean dirty animal cages and lift heavy animals, or things like bales of hay. Some animals make a lot of noise, and when an animal dies the zookeeper or animal caretaker may become very sad. Sometimes an animal will bite, kick, or spread disease. Zookeepers and many animal caretakers may work outdoors in all kinds of weather. Animals must eat every day, so caretakers and keepers must work on weekends; most work about 40 hours a week. Most people like animals, but it is hard work taking care of them. Animal caretakers feed, water, brush, bathe, and exercise animals. They also clean and fix their cages.

They play with them, are their friends, and check to see if they are sick or hurt. Caretakers work wherever animals need shelter or help, including in zoos where they are called keepers. Zookeepers prepare the diets, clean the cages, check the behavior of animals, and sometimes help to study the animals they care for. They also answer questions from visitors about where the animals come from and what they eat. In large zoos, keepers may only take care of the big cats. In small zoos, keepers may care for many kinds of animals. 


Episode Eleven - Dolphin Trainer

Dolphin TrainerDolphin training is a conditioning process through which animals receive mental stimulation, physical exercise and husbandry care. Animal trainers are responsible for the total mental and physical health of the animals in their care. This includes the hands on work with the animals as well as pool maintenance, water quality, and diet preparation. These trainers often participate in the production of educational programs for visitors and guests. Ultimately, it is education that allows the public to develop an understanding and respect for marine life which will help to ensure its survival. You don't HAVE to have a college degree. But a degree will enhance your knowledge and understanding of your career. There are numerous facilities that are unwilling to hire without a degree or a degree in progress. Usually, the only away around this requirement is to have a substantial amount of applicable experience. Realistically, a college degree is very important.

There are many ways to prepare yourself for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of you! The marine mammal field is constantly growing and changing. It is important to do as much research as you can. Take classes that will advance your public speaking skills and knowledge of the animals and environment in which you will be working. If you are going to be working with animals, the abilities to think clearly, quickly and with common sense are unspeakably important. Physical fitness is also a definite prerequisite. You will probably spend a great deal of time in or near an aquatic environment making strong swimming skills essential. In addition, if you are not already certified, you should probably take SCUBA lessons. Most facilities require that you pass a swim test and be SCUBA certified before they will hire you. 


Episode Twelve - Chef

ChefA chef does many things like supervising and coordinating the kitchen staff, pick and develop recipes, order supplies, and help in food preparation. They plan menus, they also count the numbers of customers, market conditions, and the popularity of the dishes. They also create special dishes and they test cooked food by smelling them and tasting it. Chefs have to estimate the food consumption so they know how much supplies to buy and they are responsible for labor and food costs. Also they work with chief stewards/stewardess in preparing for a banquet. Although a formal education is not necessary to become a chef, most large restaurant chefs have been to a culinary school or have formal cooking experience.

The skills you need to know to become a chef is how to plan menus, create recipes estimate food requirements, and how to order supplies. You need to have good leadership, organizational skills, and communication skills. You need to have the ability to supervise, train, motivate, and to coordinate kitchen personal. Also the ability to handle a lot of pressure. you need to work well with the staff. Another skill you need is that you got be familiar with local health, safety, and sanitation regulations. One skill that is important is good business skills and math skills. 


Episode Twelve - Medical Technician

Medical TechnicianThe medical technologist has the best of both worlds with the challenges and rewards of medicine and science. The medical technologist performs a full range of laboratory tests--from simple pre-marital blood tests, to more complex tests to uncover diseases such as AIDS, diabetes, and cancer. The medical technologist is also responsible for confirming the accuracy of test results and reporting laboratory findings to the pathologist and other doctors. Medical technologists work quickly and carefully. They can hold life and death in their hands, because the information they give to the doctor influences the medical treatment a patient receives.

In their search for data on a patient's health, medical technologists do much more than examine specimens through a microscope. They operate complex electronic equipment, computers, and precision instruments. Medical technologists are self-sufficient, precise and thorough. They are trouble-shooters who not only report accurate results, but also know when results are incorrect and need to be rechecked. 


Episode Thirteen - Private Aircraft Pilot

SPrivate Aircraft PilotA Private Pilot Certificate can unlock a world of vacation, business and career opportunities. It allows the holder to operate complex aircraft, to fly at night and to fly on lengthy cross-country flights To be eligible for a private pilot certificate, you must: Be at least 17 years of age for a rating in other than a glider or balloon. Be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language. Meet the aeronautical experience requirements of this section that apply to the aircraft rating sought. Pass the knowledge test. Pass the practical test. 

If you are applying for a private pilot certificate you must receive and log ground training from an authorized instructor or complete a home-study course on the aeronautical knowledge areas that apply to the aircraft category and class rating sought.
